While custom frames are always great, they aren't necessarily budget friendly and can add up quickly if you are looking to create a huge gallery wall in your home. To get more of a 'custom' look, search for frames with thin edges and oversized mats. Of course, everyone's preference is different, but if you are looking for that perfectly framed look, keep those two elements in mind.

I have rounded up 13 affordable ready-made frames from seven different sources that are accessible to everyone. Of course, we are all familiar with Ikea's RIBBA collection - great options! (I just wish the mats were slightly larger), but there are a few other great sources for the basic black, white, and wood tone frames. All the options listed above are available in those colours AND, there are a few sources that include really fun options! (brass, burl wood, rose gold!).

One of my favourite sources for frames is Framebridge. Unfortunately, they do not ship to Canada at this time so you have to order and ship somewhere in the USA (perfect if you have friends or relatives, or are planning a trip). This company frames whatever you want (photos, art, objects), you simply choose the frame and size, and they mail you a pre-paid label for you to ship the item you wish to frame. They also custom cut the mats to fit each piece. Slightly more expensive compared to some of the other options mentioned above BUT, significantly cheaper than any custom framing I have seen and they have TONS of contemporary frame choices.

For a different, yet fun look - take cheap store bought frames and paint the mats! A fun look for kids rooms for sure.
