BLACK BEDROOM WALLS
When we moved into our condo almost three years ago, I decided that I was going to paint one wall in our bedroom black. Everyone (and I mean everyone) told me I was crazy, that the room will look so small and it will be way too dark. I obviously didn't listen, went ahead and painted one wall Benjamin Moore 'black' and it turned out to be fabulous (like I predicted). Some people say painting small rooms with dark colours make it feel WAY smaller, but I find that to be total BS. Dark colours (including black) can look amazing in small spaces, particularly in bedrooms when done right!
Years before we moved, I saw the picture above in a copy of Montreal Home (a local publication). This room is from the Crosby Street Hotel in NYC and I was immediately OBSESSED with the space. I thought the design and colour scheme was perfect for a young couple living in a city apartment, so I went ahead and designed our bedroom based on the one photo above! While I have made a few changes over the years, the room is primarily the same as it was when we first moved in. I searched high and low for the perfect black and white textured fabric for the headboard and had a lumbar pillow made with the leftover fabric, similar to the space above!
I am currently getting ready to photograph our condo, so I won't share my photos just yet, BUT.....below are some amazing bedrooms painted with black paint that I absolutely love. From modern to traditional, black walls work with every style and looked great paired with either gold or silver accents. In my opinion, black paint really serves as a blank canvas to build on how you see fit - the possibilities are endless.
Take a look at the spaces below for some inspiration if you still aren't convinced about black bedroom walls!
