TESTED AND APPROVED GO-TO PAINT COLOURS
In the past six months or so I have tried and tested several paint colours and am happy to say that I have found a solid 20 that I now consider 'go-to' colours. Paint can be tricky, often hard to find the perfect hue for a space and because paint looks different in every room, you cannot always rely on a picture you found online. I always recommend getting samples and testing on several walls in each room. A good rule of thumb is to also consider one shade darker and one shade lighter than the colour you are considering - you may be surprised with how they all turn out in your home!
There are no exciting colours included in the group below, but there are several neutrals that I swear by and some great options for furniture pieces!
Balboa Mist, Silver Satin, Seapearl, Dove Wing, & White Dove are all great neutrals with different undertones perfect for any type of space. Balboa Mist & Silver Satin have a 'greige' undertone, they aren't too grey and are definitely not boring 'builders beige'. Seapearl, Dove Wing, & White Dove are all part of a soft off-white palette that are literally the perfect backdrop for any space.
Simply White & Chantilly Lace are great for trim and mouldings. Chantilly Lace is a very bright white, a good option if your walls are a light neutral and you want the trim to pop. Simply White is a very popular option for trim work and was named Benjamin Moore's colour of the year for 2016. It is a warmer hue but still looks great on mouldings. Amazing Gray and Shoji White are two colours I used recently and love. The perfect taupe/grey that look great when used together in the same space. Don't let the name fool you (Amazing Gray), the colour has more of a brown undertone! I've blogged about Hale Navy (here) and I will mention it again because it literally is the perfect navy. Not too dark and not too bright, chances are you will love this colour if you are searching for a navy.
Kendall Charcoal, Wrought Iron, Silver Fox, & Metropolis are all colours that I have used on different pieces of furniture and absolutely love (when painting furniture, use paint intended for furniture like Benjamin Moore's Advance line). Kendall Charcoal & Wrought Iron also look great on outdoor elements (shutters, front doors, garage doors, even your entire home!). I first discovered 10 Downing Street when looking into Benjamin Moore's Aura Grand Entrance paint for a front door refresh. Even though you can get any of their colours in this line of paint, 10 Downing Street was the colour used in the swatch book to advertise the line and I loved it, so I tried it in high gloss and it looked great. It is a perfect shade of black that definitely looks great in the high gloss finish.
