Updating Your Home For Fall

Now when I say 'fall decor', I don't mean it's time to bust out the faux cobwebs and your Halloween skeleton that sits in your basement storage room for the other 364 days a year.................

Rather think about creating a cozy, welcoming environment in your home that you will actually enjoy spending time in as the days get shorter, darker, and colder! There are so many simple ways to bring that 'cozy sweater weather' feeling to your home decor during this gorgeous season. Take a look below!

Add Texture

Adding texture is easy to do by switching out smaller accessories like pillows. Think about incorporating new pillows using textured fabrics like velvet in warm fall-like colours. Think greens, burgundy, burnt orange, and warm yellows.

If you are really brave and looking to add a bold new statement, add coloured drapes in a rich velvet!

Add Faux Fur Accents

No, that doesn't mean you have to add a dead animal head above your mantel........but it does mean that you should add faux fur to spaces that lack texture or where you want to create a cozy feeling. Good examples are throws, pillows, and even rugs. These three items are practical and tend to be items that are seen/used daily in spaces like living rooms or bedrooms.

Incorporate Candles (Duh!)

What better way to create a cozy atmosphere?! Large candle holders are great decorative accents all year round, but you should definitely think about jumping on the bandwagon and picking up a pumpkin scented candle for fall!

Dress up Your Front Step

Before adding the typical pumpkins, invest in a good wreath for your front door. It doesn't have to have pumpkins and ghosts all over it, rather look for a neutral colour wreath made from natural materials that would be appropriate for the entire fall season. You can switch it out when/if you put up Christmas decor in December!

Switch out Florals for Branches

Summer has ended and so has the season of displaying flowers from your garden throughout your home. If you still want to create a similar look, incorporate branches into your decor by placing them in large vases.

Branches tend to last WAY longer than fresh flowers and some don't even require water. You can most likely find nice branches in your yard or local park, but flower shops will also have reasonable prices on a variety of branches.

Another great idea are florals in yellow and orange tones. These would definitely help bring the fall feeling into your space and would look great against the changing colours outside your windows.

This space is super dark and rustic, but the huge display of Pussy Willow branches is amazing! (especially in that metallic vase). Pussy Willows stems will literally last forever and are really affordable! Typically, they are in season in the spring - so unfortunately they may be hard to find this time of year.

Update Entertaining Essentials

Lastly, think about updating your entertaining essentials. This can be done through festive table linens, copper barware, and decorative centrepieces.
